Do-It-Yourself Usability Testing: The Workshop

Book cover: Don't Make Me ThinkUsability testing is the single most valuable thing you can do to improve a Web site, a Web application, or a piece of software, and not nearly enough of it gets done. In this day-long workshop, Steve Krug, author of Don't Make Me Think and Rocket Surgery Made Easy, will teach you how to do your own low-cost/no-cost testing that's simple enough to make it a routine part of your design process.

Mental Models: Aligning Design Strategy with Human Behavior

Book cover: Mental ModelsThere are plenty of workshops that teach you how to design well. There are more that teach you how to test and improve your offerings. But there are very few workshops that teach you what to design.

In this workshop, Indi Young, author of Mental Models: Aligning Design Strategy with Human Behavior, will teach you the skill of building mental model diagrams--a powerful tool to help you create products and services that do a better job of meeting the real needs of your users.

Mental model diagrams will help you choose among the many opportunities your organization could pursue. They also function as a strategic roadmap, allowing you to see where your support is strong and where it needs shoring up. The diagram is long-lived, too, allowing your evolving team to use it like a touchstone over the course of 10 years or more.
